Are you a DAAD alumna or alumnus? You’ve been to Germany for study or research? You loved it? Want to tell others how great it was? Then become a DAAD-Ambassador! DAAD Vietnam invites applications for up to 10 DAAD Ambassadors across Vietnam for a term of three years (2026–2029).

About the Programme

DAAD Ambassadors are volunteer representatives of the DAAD alumni community at universities and research institutions throughout Vietnam (preferred outside Hanoi, where the DAAD Regional Office itself is active). They are lecturers, students or (young) professionals who have studied or carried out research at a university or research institute in Germany and are interested in promoting Germany as a destination for study and research. DAAD-Ambassadors help inspire others to consider Germany as their destination of choice, they advise students and colleagues, serve as the local point of contact for all things related to academic exchange with Germany, organise their own information events or volunteer at student fairs to represent DAAD.

DAAD Vietnam’s Ambassador Network brings together alumni at different career stages and across disciplines. It has been running for 12 years since 2014 with the dedicated support of our wonderful Alumni/ae: DAAD Ambassadors – DAAD Vietnam.

Through the DAAD-Ambassadors Programme, selected candidates will be able to:

  • keep their ties to Germany alive
  • hone their presentation and organisational skills
  • make a difference in something they feel strongly about.

Who we are looking for

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • DAAD alumna or alumnus (having studied, researched, or received a DAAD grant in Germany at Master’s level or above)
  • Currently active at a Vietnamese university or research institution (as student, researcher, lecturer, or academic staff)
  • Motivated to dedicate voluntary time to promoting study and research opportunities in Germany
  • Strong communication skills and an established network within their institution or discipline

You should be willing to make time in your calendar to attend the DAAD-Ambassador’s onsite-Training Workshop which is organized by DAAD Regional Office Hanoi on an annual basis. In 2026 this will be probably in October somewhere around Hanoi.

Responsibilities

DAAD Ambassadors are expected to:

  • Organise at least one information event per semester at their home institution on the topic of “Studying and Researching in Germany”
  • Advise students, colleagues, and university administrators on DAAD funding programmes and academic exchange opportunities with Germany
  • Distribute DAAD information materials and circulate relevant calls for applications within their networks
  • Act as the local point of contact for DAAD, forwarding specific enquiries to the DAAD Regional Office Hanoi

  • Submit both an annual planning as well as a brief annual activity report to DAAD Hanoi
  • Provide photos of activities and events conducted in their role as DAAD Ambassador
